Tom Huening immediately draws you in to want to know more about John Kelly. The story unfolds as an inspiring account of a man who reflects some of the highest virtues of a leader. The author's writing is clear and engaging. I highly recommend this book.
This biography follows the many twists and turns of John Kelly's life, from his early childhood, through the cloistered Catholic seminary, his priesthood, teaching at Serra High School, and finally leaving the priesthood and working with "lifers" at San Quentin State Prison. Whether you agree with John's philosophies or not, he walks the walk and actually gets out there and helps the less fortunate in person, one on one, and with great conviction.
A compelling biography of a man, John Kelly, who embraced the compassion he learned as a Catholic priest, but dropped the dogma associated with his practice. John's life has clearly touched others deeply. The author, Tom Huening, has done an excellent job sharing this altruistic man with others.
